Activities during 2006
In 2006 two meetings have been held, the former in Montecatini on March 23rd and the latter in Palermo on October 13th, in occasion of Seminars organized by S.C.I.V.A.C. entitled “Update on leishmaniasis: from diagnostic approach to therapeutic protocols”. During each meeting the controversial points of the consensus statement document about the guidelines in diagnosis, staging, therapy, monitoring, and prevention of canine leishmaniasis have been collectively discussed by the members of C.L.W.G.
In addition, prior to these meetings, a frequent exchange of e-mail messages between participants of the study subgroup of C.L.W.G. has led to the first draft of the document. In the preliminary version of the final document the following issues were considered: Introduction, Diagnostic approach – Signalment and history, Physical exam and diagnostic imaging, Elective laboratory exams and compatible findings with leishmaniasis, Diagnosis, Etiology, How to integrate each other the several data obtained to formulate the diagnosis – Staging – Therapy – Monitoring – Prevention, When and How to treat.
Moreover, the study subgroup appointed to prepare a consensus statement in the management of dogs with leishmaniasis with concurrent proteinuria has arranged a preliminary version of the final document which was including the following issues: Pathogenesis of renal damage, Pathogenesis of the proteinuria, Clinical evaluation of the proteinuria, Therapeutical approach to the proteinuria.
First semester 2011
In the first semester of 2011 (Feb. 11th) in Rome, the spring meeting of the CLWG has been held.
