Objectives and aims

The Canine Leishmaniasis Working Group (C.L.W.G.) has been established with the aim to obtain a rational and homogeneous approach to the canine patient with clinical leishmaniasis. The first establishment meeting was held in Rome in November 25th, 2005 with the support of Hill’s Pet Nutrition, world leader in the nutrition of small animals. In particular, the C.L.W.G. activity aims to optimize the following aspects of disorders induced by Leishmania in the dog:

  1. Diagnosis,
  2. Treatment,
  3. Management of Leishmania infected dogs without overt clinical signs,
  4. Prevention.

The C.L.W.G. is represented from several members (please refer to the Composition section) chaired by a chairman which contribute for the following sectors in the Leishmaniosis: dermatology, hematology, pharmacology and therapy, clinical immunology, histopathology, internal medicine, nephrology, ophthalmology, clinical pathology, and parasitology.

Since February 14th, 2014 the C.L.W.G. is a non-profit-making Scientific Cultural Association just to continue its activity. In December 31st, 2017 the Hill’s Pet Nutrition support has ended. From January 25th, 2018 the C.L.W.G. is supported by Ecuphar, multinational veterinary pharmaceutical company belonging to the Animalcare Ltd. Group.
